Abstract
The clinical view on the situation of a complicated society and the increase in the number of social pathologies raises the question of the possibilities of social therapy. The concept of paradoxical messages is of particular interest here. Its cornerstone is the idea of a «double bind» which was first described in 1956 by G. Bateson when developing the theory of schizophrenia. The logical basis of the double bind is a requirement based on two contradictory commands. Paradoxical messages carry a very serious traumatic effect. The concept of the «double bind» considered schizophrenia not as a disease of a particular individual, but as a certain system model of relations in society, as a social phenomenon. The question of its social therapy is becoming urgent. The science of society also has adopted this concept of «double bind», applying it to the analysis of political discourse, and also to the analysis of the practice of international relations.
